Next Menstrual Period
You can expect your next period in 4 to 8 weeks after your abortion. This may vary from person to person. Due to the irregularity of your menstrual cycle after an abortion, it is possible to become pregnant immediately. Often the first period can be heavier and longer than your usual period.
If you are using a type of hormonal birth control (such as a pill, the patch or vaginal ring) your next period may come 4 to 8 weeks after starting.
If you are using Depo Provera (the injection), Hormonal IUD (Kyleena or Mirena), or Nexplanon (arm implant) you may not have your period due to how these forms of birth control work. It is also very normal to have irregular bleeding with these forms of contraception for several months after you have begun them. If you are concerned about the irregular bleeding please contact the clinic during office hours.
If you have not had a period in 8 weeks and you have been sexually active take a pregnancy test and please call the clinic during office hours.
